RIASQ Dinner Meeting - February 15, 2018

Lean in State Government

Presented by Robert Imbruglio

In 2013, Bob provided an overview of the states that had begun using Lean in their state government.  He spoke of the challenges and successes in those states.  Since then, there have been many changes, including here in RI.  In this month’s presentation, Bob will update the information provided previously, as well as detailing the actions taken here in RI.  He will look at what the Lean community has learned about initializing Lean Government, where it has worked (and not), and how Lean RI is making use of these lessons learned and why he is convinced that our methodology will succeed.

Bob completed a 29 year career at General Dynamics – Electric Boat in 2012, where his last ten years was spent as the Chief of Continuous Improvement, which combined an employee based improvement program, Lean workplace, and Six Sigma program into one award winning entity. He then spent one year working for NOVACES, LLC, as a Senior Consultant and Senior Program Manager, in his role as Executive Master Black Belt for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 2013, he accepted a position as a Lean Manager for Pentair Ltd, a multi-national corporation with strong Lean Six Sigma practices in every part of the company.  He is part of the Global Lean system, and is based here in Warwick, RI. In 2016, he took on the added role of Quality Manager for the site, and is leading the changeover to ISO 9001:2015.

He holds a BS in Industrial Technology, and received his Black Belt through Breakthrough Management Group. He is a Senior Member of ASQ, is on the National Judging panel for the International Team Excellence Award competition, and has been the RISAQ instructor for Lean Six Sigma since 2004.
