Supplier Audits – Tools to Increase Effectiveness

In a world of ever-increasing costs and pressures from customers, companies are focusing on cost-control and streamlining efficiencies more than ever.  Supply chains are continuing to expand, making it increasingly difficult and expensive for companies to effectively manage their supplier base. In addition, companies are being held to higher accountability for quality of product and service. Those with a critical eye on quality must be selective in the criteria and techniques used to select and monitor suppliers.   

Over the years, the industry has undergone tremendous change.  The changes in technology are obvious but in addition to these, there have been significant changes in the supplier quality management systems.  Some were driven by various quality programs, but others were necessary due to other issues such as outsourcing, inventory control, more stringent specifications and resource issues (engineering, alternate suppliers).  Many of these factors have necessitated changes and created challenges for companies in handling their supplier quality management programs.

How do you ensure suppliers’ standards meet yours, and where do you start?  Join us as we discuss:

-         Supplier quality focus- how do you prioritize?

-         Supplier selection process.       Supplier monitoring and evaluation

-         Preparing an effective supplier audit plan.

-         What to look for when performing supplier audits?

-         Who should participate in the audit process?

-         What should happen once the audit is completed.

Angelo Scangas is President of Quality Support Group, Inc., an international consulting and training organization. Angelo has worked in the aerospace, medical, automotive and electronic industries for close to 30 years, holding positions in operations, quality, and engineering.  Angelo has a B.S. in chemical engineering, and M.S. in manufacturing engineering, and an MBA.
